CGarchitect approached Ballistiq to conceptualize and build its new website. For about 10 years, CGarchitect had been running an online community for architectural visualization professionals. During that time, its main website hadn’t been upgraded much, so Ballistiq was tasked to build a totally new site with a fresh concept and direction.
Ballistiq’s goal with CGarchitect was to set it apart from anything else out there. Various competitors had sprung up with off the shelf tools like WordPress and were trying to build similar communities. CGarchitect had to be radically different and smarter at the same time. Ballistiq conceptualized the idea of a giant “wall” where arch viz professionals and enthusiasts can post any type of content: news links, images, videos. Users would be able to have their own profiles and portfolios. They would be able to “like” content and subscribe to other users.

The end result is staggering. Within the first 24 hours of use, over 6 pages of new content was posted filled with beautiful architectural imagery. Users were absolutely delighted with the new site and social experience. In the first month, site traffic tripled and sustained at the new rate.
Some user comments posted on CGarchitect and its Facebook page:
“Love the new re-launch! Perfect!”
“I like very much the new design and functionality.”
“I really like the new website!”
“Awesome improvements. The new web page is rock solid, congrats!”
“Very good job!”
“Pretty sexy! Nice work!”
“Great update! Congrats!”
“Wonderful update! Very interactive!”
Users can share links. The CGarchitect app will automatically grab information from the link such as title, description and even a thumbnail. If no suitable thumbnail can be found, it will automatically take a screenshot of the website and use that as the thumbnail.
The new CGarchitect image uploader enables users to upload their LARGE images and handle them with ease. Users can upload huge images without having to downsize them for the web. Our system will automatically resample the images down.
The new CGarchitect app also enables users to share videos from YouTube and Vimeo. It will automatically grab the title, description and thumbnails from the video and present it attractively on the website.
Get to the good stuff! Ballistiq built a content sorting and filtering system that enables users to sort content by views, likes and comments.
Ballistiq built CGarchitect to be like Facebook. You can like anything – posts, images, videos, links.
If you like stuff that a user is posting, you can subscribe to them, meaning that you’ll see their posts in your subscribed feed.
CGarchitect members can now have their own beautiful profiles and portfolios.
With such a huge system, we also needed a way for it to auto moderate so that spammers could be caught easily. Ballistiq built an entire abuse reporting system that enables the community to self moderate. Integration with the Akismet API also enables the system to catch spam as it is posted.
Ballistiq built a content management system for managing all the content and users on the site.
Ballistiq integrated CGarchitect’s VBulletin forum system into the app, so all users were able to retain their existing user account info and have single sign on between the main site and forums.
We’re very happy to have worked on this site! We’re thrilled that it is being received so well. Ballistiq wishes CGarchitect and its members the best!
